While born in Massachusetts, I grew up mainly on the seacoast of NH where I spent most of my days offshore, deep sea fishing. I joined the military straight out of high school where in my last couple of years of service I missed my first opportunities to play rugby while stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. A fellow soldier invited me to play on the 82nd Airborne rugby team but I was too busy goofing off and had no knowledge of the game, so I pretty much dismissed the opportunity. As fate would have it, I got my first taste of what rugby was all about while visiting my brother in Maryland the exact weekend I left the military and was traveling home to NH. I stopped to visit my brother who was attending USUHS in Maryland, and I tagged along to the Cherry Blossom tournament with his team the “Fightin’Docs” in Washington DC. After watching my brother get beat up for 80 minutes straight I realized this was AWESOME!! I soon after found Seacoast Rugby Club where I played for a few years before leaving for college. I attended Maine Maritime Academy and found that I didn’t want to stop playing even though I was fast coming up on my thirties. I re-founded the MMA rugby team where we did very well to eventually win the collegiate Division IV championship in my junior year.
I have met and still continue to meet the people I love the most in this world through this amazing community. As soon as my kids were old enough and my best friend Kev told me that Seacoast had a youth program I got my son involve. His sister soon followed after. I have skirted the edges of volunteering over the years because of my commitment to my sons youth football program but since he has cleared that hurdle. I have passed the gauntlet to others and decided to jump in with both feet to help grow this amazing organization. My goal is to provide a great experience to young men and women by introducing them to this sport and helping them to grow as people and engage in the rugby community. My coaching philosophy is simple as I want the kids to safely experience the game with a passion and love in equal parts on and off the pitch. My coaching approach is to attempt to impart a knowledge of the game and its laws while strongly reinforcing key fundamental aspects of play. I am looking forward to moving the HS sides into playing 15s rugby as soon as we have the numbers and the players are ready.
